Arise and Shine Uganda was founded in 2010 by Nyanjura Sharon, who saw an opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of those from backgrounds similar to her own.
Arise and Shine Uganda believes that the key to sustainable community development is education.
Our strategy:
- Build schools that provide quality teaching
- Maintain affordable school fees – school is not publicly funded in Uganda
- Actively include girls and boys and encourage their regular attendance
- Beyond educating children, we also offer adult and community education

Quick facts:
- The Republic of Uganda is located in East Africa and neighboured by Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kamuli District
Arise and Shine Uganda focuses first on rural communities in the Kamuli district, which is situated in Eastern Uganda, approx. 115 KM (70 miles) from the Capital city, Kampala.
Kamuli has an estimated population of 820,000 people. The predominant language spoken in Kamuli is Lusoga with some Luganda and English.
Kibuye Village
Arise and Shine Uganda’s first community project is focusing on the village of Kibuye which is in North Eastern Kamuli in Kagumba Sub-county, on the shores of the Victoria Nile.
Kibuye has an estimated population of 60,000 people and is spread over 27 by 35km. The majority of the population is highly dependent on subsistence farming and barter trade within village in order to survive.
